The image of a colourful friendly soft book for toddler is ubiquitous. The story is non-existent, the colours are straight-forward. In response to the proposed purity of such a soft book, I created a series of mock-up pages for a touch & feel book for toddlers that speaks to impure deeply political worlds which young children are already part of. The images were created for CAREC 2025 pre-conference: Inciting and Sustaining Radical Dialogues in Early Childhood Research: Studying Questions. The book incorporates quotes offered by Dr. Erin Manning and collaborators Diego Gil, Andre Bocchetti, and Khadija Baker during the CAREC Pre-Conference Event in previous year.
You can see the book’s pages in a 2-mite video which runs alongside excerpts from Erin Manning’s “What Can a Body Do?” (The Funambulist Podcast, January 20, 2014). The video was created for CAREC 2025 pre-conference.
